Balancing your life with your sport

Global Sports Harmony Performance Coaching and Hynotherapy

For well paid professional athletes, balancing their sport with the rest of they're lives is quite easy. They have the financial power to really relax and enjoy their leisure time, without the barriers of a 'day job.' Even those athletes can sometimes struggle with the sport and life balance.

To best integrate your sport life with the rest of your life, the following questions can really help you, to maintain the balance needed to live an enjoyable life, preparing you for excellent sporting performances. For better sport and life balance, complete the following exercise:

Take some time to centre yourself, relax your attention, place one hand on your stomach about 2 inches below your navel, and ask yourself the following question:

* What is it deeply desire / want from my sport?

By asking yourself this question in the above way, you will ensure that your motivations for your sport, are coming from within you, not from external influences like parents, siblings or partners. Get clear on what it is you want!

Any attempts to achieve goals that have been externally imposed, will either be sabotaged or will create stress in your life away from your sport.

Next, ask yourself:

* What do I want that for? (what is my positive intention for this goal)

And finally:

* What are the consequences of achieving this goal? (both negative and positive)

If the goal doesn't fit well with all of these questions, leave it, and go for something else that does!

Finally, find hobbies and interests away from your sport. This may sound obvious, but is often not considered by even the most elite athletes. Without mentioning his name, I can think of a very successful golfer ( top 50 in the world ) whose coach previously criticized him for not having interests outside of golf. Unfortunately, the player didn't heed his coaches advice, and split with his coach. As a result, the players good performances are inconsistent and sporadic, he suffers many injuries, and I would imagine, has some personal problems outside of his sport he's not managing effectively.

In a situation like the one above, the player may have unconscious incongruities or intentions that are not being fulfilled. He needs more flexibility in his life! As the wise proverb says:

The bamboo is strong because it bends and does not break. (Lao Tzu)

If your having problems with life outside of your sport, don't split with your coach, call GSH today and learn how to live a more balanced, enjoyable sporting life, both on and off the field!
